It’s November already—one week since I pulled an all-nighter and handed in a manuscript I had to wrestle into submission, and a couple of days post Halloween! Not to mention—my birthday!!
I used to have the best birthdays when I was a kid—combination Halloween/Birthday parties. If Halloween landed on a Friday or Saturday, my friends and I would go trick or treating and then have a sleepover—and birthday cake for breakfast!! Can you imagine what my mom went through? All these little girls on candy and birthday cake sugar highs!
My Little Pumpkins
I now have kids and shudder at the thought. For the party, my mom would create games like musical pumpkins and pin the nose on the pumpkin. She was a GOOD mom. Whereas I, on the other hand, hoped my kids (twins) would be born on leap year, so I’d only have to celebrate their birthdays every four years—Haha!! Slacker mom…hmmm…now there’s an idea for a costume. But, alas, since we’ve already established I’m a slacker, I’ll just dig out my old witch’s hat.
Refilling the Well
I spent the past week since I handed in my manuscript, binge watching Game of Thrones and Mindhunter, and reading a few books from my TBR list. I knew I should be writing, but I had nothing left to give. I spent a lot of time with my kids and gave my pup a few extra walks—refilling the well, I suppose.
And I had a very exciting day a week or so ago when Highland Promise came out as an audio book! Hearing the words spoken by the incredible Rosalyn Landor gave me an even bigger thrill than seeing my book on the shelves…maybe because I’d already held the book in my hands by the time Highland Promise was released. So if you like audio books, check it out!!
Now I’m doing some last minute preparation for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). I’ll be working with thousands of other authors to write 50,000 words (or more) in November to either complete a novel in a month or to write a significant chunk of it. What a great way to slide into Christmas with more than half of book 4, Highland Capture, complete!
Wish me luck! If I get back edits on book three before November is over, I’ll need it!! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…
Take care, everyone, and I hope you had a deliciously wicked Halloween. And before you go, be sure to listen to the audio sample of Highland Promise!
